This course list is progressive; completion of each prior course is essential for enrollment in the next. All pre-arranged courses are conducted at Bangor, North Wales; however, we can deliver bespoke courses at your chosen location upon request.

Rope Rescue Operator (RRO)
The Rope Rescue Operator (RRO) course is an introduction for anyone who may need to partake in a rope rescue operation as part of a team. This course teaches the knowledge and skills necessary to operate safely and effectively. The only prerequisite for this course is being over 18 years old; however, prior rope experience is recommended.
Participants will learn legislation and standards to ensure that they’re able to use best practices within the team, as well as system safety factors & checks to ensure they’re operating as safely as possible. The course places an emphasis on team roles & commands, and personal & team equipment, providing participants with teamwork skills for effective collaboration. The rope skills covered include simple anchor and belay systems, tensioning systems & mechanical advantage, ascending & descending, rope-based raising & lowering systems and team-based pick off rescue.

Rope Rescue Technician (RRT)
The next step is a Rope Rescue Technician (RRT) course. This course covers concepts and techniques to enable small teams to undertake technical rope rescues. Candidates progress from key concepts through to the rigging and operation of full systems for raising, lowering, and highline rescues.
Building on the RRO rope skills, participants will learn multi-point anchor systems, compound and complex mechanical advantage, the use of artificial high directionals, litter attending high angle, passing knots through the system, Highline rope systems and rope access skills.

Rope Rescue Specialist (RRS)
The Rope Rescue Specialist (RRS) is designed for rope rescue team members who have already completed a comprehensive basic training and now wish to specialise.
The RRS course builds on advanced rope systems analysis, more complex rescue scenarios, lead climbing, taglines, guiding lines and deflection lines, vertical litter edge transitions, reeving options for highline rope systems and night operations.
Rope Rescue Team Leader (RRTL)
The Rope Rescue Team Leader (RRTL) course will enable practitioners to lead a team during a rope rescue. This course covers knowledge of rope rescue legislation, documentation, and guidance, enabling participants to promote best practices as team leaders. Leadership skills are another focus; the course covers Rope rescue team types, working with partner agencies, rope rescue team categorisation, briefing, and debriefing.
This course teaches a comprehensive set of skills that equip participants to deal wth uniqe scenarios using best practice. This includes pre-planning for incidents, risk assessments, on-scene assessment, briefing and debriefing, considerations for night/poor visibility operations, identifying confined spaces, considerations for team welfare, and directing and controlling a rescue system.

Rope Rescue Operator Instructor (RROI)
The Rope Rescue Operator Instructor (RROI) course enables individuals to deliver training to personnel who operate safely and effectively as part of a coordinated rope rescue team. The course trains instructors to deliver the Safe Working at Height, Co-worker Rescue, and Rope Rescue Operator courses under the Rescue 3 framework. Participants must have completed a Rescue 3 RRT course and be teaching on RRO / RRT, and hold an advanced first aid certificate.
