PPE inspection and compliance are essential, but the process can often involve a lot of administration.
At Helix Operations, we're using Scannable to simplify the way we manage our PPE, making inspections quicker while maintaining accurate, audit-ready records.
Making PPE easier to manage
We're now introducing discreet NFC tags across our equipment. Each tagged item can be scanned using a mobile device, allowing it to be added to our Scannable inventory or linked directly to an inspection checklist.
Smart PPE™ comes pre-loaded with key product information, including:
- Serial, batch, and part numbers
- Date of manufacture
- Expiry date
- Product information
- Supporting documents
This means the information is already available when an item is scanned, reducing the need for manual data entry and helping inspectors spend more time inspecting equipment and less time completing paperwork.
Four NFC tag options
Different equipment requires different tagging solutions, so we use four types of NFC tags across our products.
Hard Tag
Commonly used on equipment such as carabiners, the Hard Tag is only 3mm thick and provides a discreet, durable tagging solution for equipment where space is limited.
JOAT (Jack Of All Tags)
As the name suggests, the JOAT is a versatile, general-purpose tag that can be applied wherever there is enough space. It's a practical option for a wide range of equipment and environments.
Squircle
The Squircle is a metal NFC sticker designed for quick installation and areas subject to medium levels of wear. Its low-profile design makes it a useful option where a discreet tag is required.
Sew-in Laminate Tag
For textile equipment, the Sew-in Laminate Tag provides a durable, long-term solution. The tag can be stitched directly into the fabric, creating a secure connection designed for equipment that sees regular use.
Once equipment has been tagged and added to our Scannable inventory, inspectors can scan the NFC tag to access the item's record and complete the relevant inspection checklist.
The inspection result is then recorded against the individual item, creating a clear history of inspections and helping us keep our PPE records organised and accessible.
The aim is simple: less time managing paperwork, more time inspecting the equipment.
