Petzl designed the Avao range of harnesses to be their all-round work at height harness; one harness that can be used for all industrial access tasks; fall arrest, work positioning, or suspension. It can be used for everything from positioning at a work station to working suspended from a rope system allowing workers at height to take on a wider range of tasks including framing and facades, towers, wind turbines, and MEWPs.
There are 4 variants; models with either European or International certifications and each with either standard or fast buckles. The model here is the International Fast as it is the most popular but all are available as required.
The European versions are certified to CE EN 361, EN 358, EN 813 and the International versions to ANSI Z359.11, ANSI Z459.1, NFPA 1983 class III, CSA Z259.10, CE EN 361, EN 358, EN 813, GB 6095: Q-W-Z. with lanyard parking on the shoulder straps to help keep the lanyard out of your way but within reach. On the International versions there is an additional safety feature; in the event of a fall on the dorsal attachment point a red indicator appears, indicating that the harness should be retired
Wide, semi-rigid waistbelt and leg loops provide excellent support whilst all contact zones use contoured foam and are lined with breathable material to maximise comfort.
The shoulder straps have a system for stowing the fall-arrest lanyard connectors and keeping them within reach.
The Doubleback self-locking buckles at the rear of the harness, between the waistbelt and the leg loops, allow for a shorter adjustment when the dorsal attachment point is used. It is easy to carry and organize work tools, with multiple gear loops and slots for attaching tool holders and tool pouches.
The Petzl Avao has multiple connection points:
- Ventral attachment point: Attachment for a descender, a positioning lanyard in single mode, a work seat on the ventral D ring; attachment for a lanyard with a RING OPEN to the textile connection point
- Lateral attachment points: Attachment for a positioning lanyard for use in double mode
- Sternal attachment point: Attachment for a fall-arrest system
- Dorsal attachment point: Attachment for a fall-arrest system
- Rear attachment point on the waistbelt: Attachment for a restraint lanyard
