The Cortex is a high-performance tool designed for extreme mixed, ice, and dry tooling routes. Its exoskeleton I-Beam profile is precisely CNC-machined from a single aluminum billet, ensuring an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and delivering a perfectly balanced swing.
 
This fully 'Type 2' (T) rated tool features a modular pick system, allowing you to customize it with an Ice Pick, Ice Tech Pick, or a robust Dry Tooling Pick based on the challenge ahead. Every Cortex ice axe includes a free dry tool pick (while supplies last) and pick weights.
 
Crafted from a single aluminum billet using CNC milling, the Cortex is both incredibly strong and lightweight, with superb balance. Drawing on the technology behind our premium I-Beam carabiners, the design removes excess material, resulting in the distinctive exoskeleton I-Beam profile that optimizes weight distribution for a flawless swing.
 
The upper and lower handles feature a textured polymer over-molding, providing excellent grip and insulation. The handle includes a clip-in hole compatible with Shadow, Phantom, or Phantom HMS screw gates, as well as an attachment point for cords up to 5mm for leash clipping.
 
The Type 2 T-rated picks are modular and adaptable to your needs. The Cortex comes equipped with the Ice Tech pick, Micro Hammer, and pick weights. DMM also offers three interchangeable picks, two hammers, and one adze, all compatible with the Cortex, Apex, and Vertex.
